Self Made Canned-Goods Food Storage

Storing canned food in the pantry can be tiresome for a lot of people. Because of the bulk, it consumes too much space in the kitchen. So why not create your own food storage cabinet to accommodate your canned good? This article gives you more idea on how to do it yourself.

The materials necessary in creating a food storage cabinet are 12 pieces of board wood, 48 pieces of stripped wood, 4 pieces of 2x4 wood boards. You would also need screws or nails, glue, and L brackets. You may need clamps, so it is best to prepare them. The materials listed above will be enough to create 12 shelves of food storage. You can adjust the number of your wood if you want to make the cabinet smaller.

Once ready with the materials, you need to decide on the size of your food storage cabinet or shelves. For instance, to make a 12 shelf storage, you need to have the 12 pieces of plywood mentioned. The 2x4 wood boards will act as the support of the shelves, and will be attached using the L bracket. Remember that the back-end of the shelf should be a little bit higher than the front end.

First, attach the L brackets to the 2x4 boards with nails or screws. Do the top first using a new bracket with and interval of 6 inches. On the back, use 2 of your 2x4 boards and start about an inch up as you attach the brackets.

Using the one-inch strip woods, you can make rows on the plywood, which would be your space for the cans. It is better to get empty cans so that you will have a measuring guide for the rows. Separate the bigger cans from the small ones, this way, the strips would be easier to attach. If you have the can measurements, attach the strips using glue, and if you want it to really stick together, you can use clamps. Let the materials dry for an hour.

To do more in less time, you can start the other shelf while waiting for the other to dry. Do not forget to put a strip at each board end, and make a partition in the middle to make rows. This way, the cans can be supported and held in the proper place.

After this, attach the 2x4 into the L bracket, then nail or screw it into place. You can do this until all the shelves are attached together.

Once all the food storage shelves are done, you can now decide on where to place the shelf. You should put the food storage when you can easily put and get the cans. Now you have a self-made food storage for your canned goods. When displaying or shelving, make sure to put the new cans out front, while the older ones can be put at the back of the first or second row of new cans. You will now see that it is very convenient to have a well-made canned goods food storage.
