Yes we have all probably heard different stories about smelly cheese. Yes they do in fact have a somewhat objectionable odor. But their taste is great. So for a wonderful culinary experience, consider putting up with the smell. Here are some common types.
1. Taleggio Cheese. This cheese was first developed in Italy and is known to be one of the oldest types of cheese. The method in which it was first produced is still applied today.
There is no denying that this cheese does have a strong odor. However its taste is quite mild with a sweet and smooth flavor along with fruity overtones. It can used in pastas, soups, and crepes among other dishes.
But given the great taste this cheese offers, its smell should be something to overlook so you don't have to miss out on its flavor.
2. Linberger. The ever popular stinky cheese, Linberger has established a well known reputation. Some people liken the smell to bad foot odor.
But if you can get past the bad smell, you'll find Linberger cheese to have a very nice soft and creamy consistency. It features a strong and spicy flavor with a reddish color as it ages.
This is certainly another great smelly cheese to consider.
3. Roquefort. Despite it being one of the smelly cheeses, Roquefort has a sharp flavor and interesting texture which goes great on salads as well as a great addition to fruit.
In this case the interesting and distinctive odor of the cheese is part of what makes it so popular and tasty.
