Storing Tomatoes for Winter

Storing fruits and vegetables for utilizing them further during winters is a useful thing. Some people live in urban areas and can still afford to get their choice of vegetables and fruits from the supermarkets where these are sold as frozen items, but for those who live in rural areas, this facility is not readily available and hence, storing them when they are in abundance is quite an advisable thing. Even people living urban areas can opt to do this.

Tomatoes are one of the most useful and extensively used vegetables. These become a rare vegetable/fruit during winters. Therefore, one must know how to store them, so that they can easily use them whenever they want.

For those, who do not want to use canned or dried tomatoes, they can adopt the method mentioned here for storing them.

Freezing is one of the best ways to store tomatoes for a longer period of time without losing much of its flavor and taste. First of all, you have to put some water and the tomatoes in a container. Boil this for about one minute. Once the water along with the tomatoes has been boiled, immediately remove the tomatoes from the boiling water, and immerse them in freezing water. Remove the outer skin of the tomatoes and let them cool. Put these cooled tomatoes in a freezer bag by adding a pinch of salt in each of the bags. You must take out all the air from the bag before sealing them. This can be done by squeezing the bag. Then, seal the bag properly and keep it inside the freezer for use during winters.
